Weir Wood Reservoir is a 379 acre biological site of special scientific interest, located just west of Forest Row, in East Sussex. An area of outstanding natural beauty in the High Weald, it includes an 81 acres Local Nature Reserve.
The reservoir was first flooded in 1954. The wildlife on the site increased so much that it was listed as a Site of Special Scientific interest in 1966. Later the shallow western end was designated as a Local Nature Reserve excluding boating and fishing.
Iron rich streams and foundry remains along the river are relics of a busy Roman and medieval iron industries.
Weir Wood Reservoir is owned by Southern Water. Conservation work is managed by Southern Water, East Sussex County Council and The Friends of Weir Wood Society.
The Friends monitor the wildlife and bring labour and financial support to many of the projects on site.
