Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What does a Watersports Membership include?
Your membership allows you to launch your own craft (dinghies, windsurfs, wings, wingfoils, paddleboards, kayaks, canoes) and gives you access to clubhouse changing rooms, bathrooms, and the café during office hours. You also receive a 50% discount on equipment hire.
  2. Can I bring a guest?
Guests are welcome during office hours, and you will receive 5 free guest access passes a year- after this they must book hire or launch access separately at the standard day rate. Only members can access the water outside office hours.
  3. Do I need to book to launch my own craft?
If you’re a member, you can launch your own equipment at any time, you just need to let us know you’re planning on going on the water via the online booking link (unless otherwise advised for safety reasons). Non-members must book and can only launch during staffed office hours, at least 48 hrs in advance.
  4. What’s the difference between a social membership and a full watersports membership?
A social membership is for those who want to enjoy the lakeside, supervise others, or use the café and facilities—but do not plan to go on the water. A full watersports membership includes access for launching your own watercraft.
  5. Is equipment storage included in the membership?
No—storage is an optional add-on. You can purchase kayak/canoe storage for £50 per year, and dinghy storage for £200 per year (£100 for each additional dinghy).
  6. What are the opening hours?
Office hours (for hire, launch, and café access) will be listed on our homepage and updated seasonally. Members can access the water and changing rooms outside of these times with their membership.
  7. Is the water supervised at all times?
No. The water is not always supervised, and members use it at their own risk. All members must follow safety guidelines and ensure they are competent and prepared.
  8. Do you offer family memberships?
Currently, we offer individual adult and youth memberships. Families can join by purchasing multiple memberships. We are reviewing family package options for the future.
  9. How do I join?
You can sign up online via our booking portal, or get in touch via enquiries@weirwood.co.uk for assistance.
  10. How do I access the facilities out of hours?
Members will be provided with gate and keybox codes for accessing out of hours. These keys must be returned to the keybox after use. Personal keys will not be issued.
  11. Do I get a card of craft sticker?
All members will receive a welcome letter with a membership card, as well as craft stickers should they choose to store their boats at Weir Wood Reservoir.
  12. Do I need my own insurance?
Yes- members that want to launch their own craft require their own public liability insurance at a minimum value £3 million.
